Surgical site management: prevention is better than cure

<p>Surgery is an essential and often expensive intervention, but rates of post-surgery morbidity and mortality are high. Traditional methods of primary intention closure of surgical incisions have drawbacks. Prevention of wound complications depends on applying recommendations for the prevention and management of surgical site infections.
